Tallo's Scholarships
So many families faced hardships over the past year and Tallo wanted to do something to help a student who was impacted financially by the pandemic, so we’ve officially launched Tallo’s $10,000 Scholarship to help a high school senior who is planning to pursue higher education in Fall 2021. This is a needs-based scholarship, with special consideration given to students who have experienced hardships during the pandemic that may inhibit their ability to afford college.

We have partnered to offer two scholarship awards to graduating high school seniors from Horry, Georgetown. Marion, Williamsburg, and the southern part of Florence County. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to rising college freshman seeking a four-year degree from Coastal Carolina University OR Francis Marion University. The scholarship may be renewed for an additional three years in the amount of $500 per year should the recipient continue to meet qualifying criteria. The amount a Key Scholarship recipient may be awarded over a four-year period is $2,500.
Eligibility
- Be a graduating high school senior
- Have at least a 3.0 GPA
- Be accepted by and plan to attend either Coastal Carolina University (CCU) or Francis Marion University (FMU) for at least four years.
- Be enrolled in a minimum of 12 college credit hours (full-time status) at either CCU or FMU

Hagan Scholarship

The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship, providing recipients with the opportunity to achieve their goals and graduate college debt-free. Applicants must graduate from a high school located in the United States. Applicant’s Adjusted Gross Household Income reported for 2022 Federal Income Tax Purposes must not have exceeded $100,000.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or have a Permanent Resident Card (Green Card).
2. Must attend a high school located in the United States. Can be a public, private, charter, magnet, or STEM school.
3. Must be in the high school graduating class.
4. Must have achieved a 3.50 Cumulative Grade Point Average.
5. Must enroll in an eligible four-year not-for-profit College or University the first-semester following high school graduation.
6. Must maintain a four-year or less graduation schedule in college, or complete the equivalent of a four-year degree if in a professional program.
7. Recipients must work 240 hours from January 1, 2024 until commencement of the 2024 fall semester in college. Work can be performed at recipient discretion. Employment must be regularly scheduled work performed under supervision for compensation. Work can be full-time during the summer and/or part-time work.
8. Applicant’s Adjusted Gross Household Income reported for 2022 Federal Income Tax Purposes must not have exceeded $100,000. “Household Income” is defined as the total income received by all members of a household living under the same roof.
9. Applicants selected as Finalists must provide a copy of their FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS).
10. Must apply for Federal and State grants if eligible.

Boone Foundation Scholarship Awards are available to residents of South Carolina according to the following criteria.

● Minimum grade point average of 3.5.
● Demonstrate financial need.

Scholarship Renewal Provisions
- The recipient is still pursuing a graduate degree in law or the performing arts.

The Sun News Educational Foundation Scholarship Endowment

Type: One-time scholarship
This is an annual scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00 to be awarded to graduating seniors from high schools in Horry and Georgetown counties entering as full-time students a two-year/junior, technical/community, or four-year college in accordance with the following criteria:
a) 30% - Community Involvement based on student’s self-report and letters of recommendation.
b) 30% - Leadership qualities as demonstrated in the school-setting as well as in the community based on the student’s personal essay, letters of recommendation, and candidate interview.
c) 25% - Personal aspirations and ability to overcome obstacles, based on student’s personal essay, letters of recommendation, and candidate interview.
d) 15% - Academic achievement, ability, and performance, based on GPA and standardized test scores.
Thomas W. Jones Memorial Scholarship

Type: Renewable Scholarship
This renewable scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating high school senior or current student at the University of South Carolina’s School of Engineering.
● Applicant must attend the University of South Carolina and enrolled in the School of Engineering.
● A GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale is required.
● Applicant must have ties to either Georgetown or Horry County.

Horry Electric Cooperative, Inc. WIRE Scholarship
Deadline: March 1, 2024- Amount of scholarship $1,500
SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
- Applicant must be an active member or dependent of an active member of Horry Electric Cooperative, Inc. If dependent, they must live in the home with the member of Horry Electric Cooperative, Inc.
- Awards are for one academic year for an entering college freshman for Fall 2023. $750.00 will be given for the fall semester; an additional $750.00 will be given for the spring semester contingent up meeting the GPR requirement. One $1,500.00 total scholarship.
- Scholarship recipient must have at least a cumulative 2.5 GPR at the end of the first semester of college to receive the second semester scholarship balance of $750.00. Copies of grades need to be given to Susan Brown at the end of the first semester when registering for second semester to receive the final check.
- Loans and/or college work-study awards received in addition to this scholarship do not reduce its full value in any way.
- In accepting this scholarship, student gives consent to the release of grades and other relevant information to the scholarship sponsor at the end of each semester.
- All applications must be received by Horry Electric’s WIRE Group by Wednesday, March 1st, 2023 at 12 noon. Applications received after Wednesday, March 1, 2024, are NOT eligible.
- Applicants must be attending Coastal Carolina University or Horry-Georgetown Technical College only and be enrolled in a two-year or four-year degree program. Disbursement of these funds will be handled by Coastal Carolina University or Horry-Georgetown Technical College as per their procedures.
- In the event there is no qualified applicant, the scholarship is suspended for that year.
- In the event that the scholarship recipient receives the first $750 for the Fall Semester and does not maintain GPR and/or drops out of school, the balance of the scholarship is suspended for that applicant and for the remainder of that school year/spring semester. And suspended indefinitely for that student.
- Financial need will be an important consideration in determining a winner.
- Students may be asked to participate in an interview process as a final step in the process; however, by completing and returning this application is no guarantee that every applicant will gain an interview. Those selected for an interview will be contacted individually.

Eagle Scout of the Year Scholarship
Deadline: March 1, 2024-Amount of scholarship $10,000
The American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year nomination window is from November 1st to March 1st, annually. Nomination packets must be received by each applicant's respective American Legion Department (state) no later than March 1st. Then each respective American Legion Department (state) Selection Committee will determine the Eagle Scout judged to be the best in their Department (state). The Department (state) will then send that packet, along with a list of the members serving on that Selection Committee, to The American Legion National Headquarters no later than April 1st.
The American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year will receive a $10,000 scholarship. Three (3) runner-up scholarship awards will be granted in the amount of $2,500 each.
The scholarship recipients will be eligible to receive their scholarship upon enrollment to an accredited trade school, college, or university within the United States. Disbursement of the scholarship funds through an online request will be made available jointly to the student and the school. Scholarship winners must utilize the total award within four (4) years of their post high school graduation date, excluding active military duty or religious mission.
Additionally, the American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year will travel to join the Youth Champion Delegation of The American Legion that is honored each August at the annual National Convention of The American Legion.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc was founded at the collegiate level by women of color 100 years ago. The mission was and continues to work collectively through programming, legislation, and education to enhance the lives of women and their families in the U.S. and globally. Every year, the Horry County Solid Waste Authority (SWA) awards one graduating high school senior from each high school a one-time $1,000 scholarship to encourage students to pursue a degree related to the environment, which supports SWA’s mission of Protecting Tomorrow’s Environment Today. The S-STEM CARES @ CCU Engineering Scholarship program aims to support high-achieving, low-income undergraduate engineering science majors with demonstrated financial need. The S-STEM CARES program will provide a renewable, last-dollar scholarship (up to $15,000 after all other grants and scholarships have been taken into account) to *eligible incoming first-year students who have applied to CCU for Fall 2024 and are majoring in Engineering Science through graduation (up to eight semesters of support).

Horatio Alger Scholarship

As one of the nation's largest college financial aid programs in the country, the Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program is one of the major scholarship programs nationally that specifically assists high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. The scholarships are funded by Horatio Alger Members who, like the Scholars, have experienced challenges but ultimately overcame them to become successful business and civic leaders.
The National Scholarship is awarded to eligible students in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. National Scholars receive an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., during the spring of their senior year to participate in the National Scholars Conference. Recipients must attend the National Scholars Conference to receive the award.

Mary Atmar Johnson Scholarship

Mary Atmar Johnson, affectionately called “Mamar,” served on the original committee that brought Tidelands Community Hospice, formerly Hospice of Georgetown, into being and helped to make it what it is today. Thanks to her and other community volunteers’ grassroots efforts, in March 1985 licensure as one of the first not-for-profit hospice in South Carolina was granted to the then Hospice of Georgetown County. The Mary Atmar Johnson Scholarship was established to perpetuate the cycle of caring and commitment and to honor “Mamar.”
Four (4) $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually to individuals who are or will be pursuing a degree in Nursing or Social Work.
In order to qualify, Candidates for this Scholarship must:

- Two-dimensional art must be on canvas or paper. Watercolor, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen, ink, oil, marker or other media taught may be used.
- Do not frame two-dimensional pieces.
- Submit canvas entries on a stretcher frame or canvas board. Other entries, if matted, must be matted in white. Do not use color mats. Reinforce the back with heavy paper. Mounted and floating mats may also be used.

Jason Vance Chatlosh Memorial Scholarship at Eastern Carolina Community Foundation

The Jason Vance Chatlosh Swim Scholarship was created in loving memory of Jason Vance Chatlosh to honor his vibrant competitive swimming career in the Pee Dee and in the state of SC. The scholarship will keep Jason’s swimming goals and dreams alive while helping students pursue their own college swimming and academic goals.
Jason began swimming at the age of five. At age twelve, he started to coach at the Florence YMCA. In 2004, he helped establish the Florence SD1 High School Swim Programs. Jason also swam for South Florence High School and earned state championships in the butterfly and backstroke.
Jason continued his swimming career at Clemson, graduating with a degree in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism. He served as the swim team athletic representative on Clemson’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Purpose: To provide a $1000 scholarship to a student swimmer to continue their swimming career in college.

Live Nation – US Concerts Scholarship Application AWARD: $10,000 • Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Supports students pursuing careers in the five core areas of the Live Nation business: concert and venue promotion; sponsorship and advertising; ticketing; e-commerce; and artist management.
Steven J. Finkel Service Excellence Scholarship AWARD: $10,000 • Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Established to support the ever-growing customer service expectations of fans, artists and employees within the live entertainment industry.
Tiffany Green Operator Scholarship AWARD: $10,000 • Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Established to support women pursuing a career in live entertainment. Fields of study may include but not limited to: live event operations, production, music engineering and/or other related fields.
David E. Ballard Scholarship AWARD: $10,000 • Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
Established in the memory of David E. Ballard, with the support of the Living Legacy Foundation, this $10,000 scholarship supports youth who have experienced homelessness and/or have been part of the foster care system pursuing a career in live entertainment. The field of study may include but is not limited to live event operations, production, music engineering, music business management, customer service, hospitality and/or other related fields.
South Carolina State University College of Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship
Deadline: March 31, 2024- Amount of Scholarship $5,000
South Carolina State University’s College of Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences (CAFCS) through a collaborative partnership with Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University (AAMU) will be awarding academic scholarships valued at $20,000 ($5,000 each academic year) to graduating high school seniors. This is a commitment-based scholarship that will be awarded to first-time freshmen entering the 2024-2025 academic year. Students must be committed to pursuing a degree in CAFCS at South Carolina State University to gain employment in Food, Agriculture, Natural Resources, or Human Sciences (FANH).
THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA WILL BE USED IN THE SELECTION OF RECIPIENTS:
- Students must be an incoming freshman for the 2024-2025 Academic Year.
- Students must major in one of the following areas:
- AgriBusiness
- Family and Consumer Sciences Business/Child Development
- Family and Consumer Sciences Business/Fashion Merchandising
- Family and Consumer Sciences Business/Multidisciplinary
- Nutrition and Food Management
- Students must complete and submit this application by March 31, 2024, by 11:59 pm.

Beach Ball Classic Scholarship
Deadline: March 31, 2024-Amount of scholarship $1,000
Since 1984, the Scholarship Fund has contributed over $300,000 in college scholarships to over 300 deserving high school seniors in Horry County. Each year one student from each high school in Horry County will be awarded the annual scholarship. This scholarship would not be possible without the generous support from Bolton & Menk Inc., (formally DDC Engineers).
The Scholarship Program of the Beach Ball Classic will award for the 2024-2025 school year a minimum of (9) $1,000.00 college scholarships to outstanding high school athletes as designated below.
BBC Scholarship Guidelines:
1. Each scholarship recipient must be an outstanding student-athlete in one sport or more for one of the following Horry County Schools: Aynor High, Carolina Forest High, Conway High, Green Sea Floyds High, Myrtle Beach High, North Myrtle Beach High, Socastee High or St. James High. Further, the scholarship awards will be based on financial need, scholastic achievement, intellectual ability, and participation in co-curricular school activities in addition to athletics, and the recommendation of a school staff member.
2. Selection of recipients is to be made without discrimination as to race, sex, creed, or country of origin.
3. Recipients shall be selected by committee under procedures established by them from the students in the current senior class whether they be end-of-the-year or summer graduates.
4. Scholarship applicants may be interviewed by the committee if the committee deems an interview helpful in the selection process.
5. Recipients may attend a college of their choice.
6. The full scholarship money of $1,000 will be paid at the beginning of the academic year to the college or university and disbursed to and for the account of the recipient.
7. Application forms are to be made available in each high school. All completed applications are to be submitted online by March 31, 2024.
8. Awards will be announced within a month of the deadline for submitting applications.
9. Incomplete applications will not be scored.
10. Scholarship recipient must attend college in the Fall after high school graduation or the award may be forfeited.
