Carolina Forest High School is fortunate to have one of the best television production studios in South Carolina. Since the school's opening in 1997, the broadcasting program has been evolving into one of the top programs in the Southeast. The program was titled “Panther News” until 2007 when the name was changed to “The Forest Fire.” The program has received numerous awards including an "All-State" rating from The South Carolina Scholastic Press Association and an "All-Southern" rating from the Southern Interscholastic Press Association. These are the highest ratings given by these organizations. In addition to these honors, the program was named "Best in SCSPA Broadcasting", the highest honor given to high school broadcasts in the state of South Carolina. The broadcasting program has also taken home “Best In Show” awards for podcasts and public service announcements.
The Forest Fire is produced daily by students in Mr. Scholl's Journalism II – Broadcasting course. It includes daily announcements, sports updates, and weather information. Interviews with student leaders, athletes, faculty members and coaches also appear daily. The show airs daily on the school's closed-circuit television system at 11:36 on channel 36.
The Forest Fire also includes in-depth stories on topics relevant to CFHS students. These stories allow advanced students the opportunity to research stories, conduct interviews, and edit together a 3-4 minute piece for broadcast. The pieces usually air every other Friday. They can be viewed on our YouTube page or website at theforestfire.com
In 2008 CFHS Journalism students launched a news website at www.cfhsforestfire.blogspot.com This site offers in-depth news and culture from our high school. The site is still under development, but we hope you will visit often. If you are interested in advertising on the site, please contact Mr. Todd Scholl at tscholl@horrycountyschools.net.
The Sideline is our Panther Sports podcast. Students produce a weekly audio program about one of our outstanding athletic programs here at The Forest. The Sideline is available on this site for downloading. You can transfer this .mp3 file to a portable media device and listen whenever and wherever you choose.
CFHS Journalists learn how to use the communication tools of the 21st century. We travel to scholastic journalism conventions and are always seeking to stay on the cutting edge.
We would love your feedback. Please send all announcements, comments, and suggestions to the staff at tscholl@horrycountyschools.net.
