The Special Education Department at Carolina Forest High provides services for students who have been identified with some type of disability.  Services are provided for students identified as learning disabled, mentally disabled, emotionally disabled, hearing disabled, visually disabled, and orthopedically disabled.  Services are also provided for students diagnosed as Other Health Impaired, Autistic, and Multiply Handicapped, according to state and Federal guidelines.

At Carolina Forest High School, we offer services through three models:  Learning Strategies, Self-Contained, and Itinerant.  Learning Strategies is a 90-minute class that supports students with a disability who can learn successfully in regular education classes, but need additional support.  Students requiring services of Learning Strategies teachers typically are in regular classes three or four blocks each day pursuing a regular academic diploma.  The self-contained model provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities who find it difficult to be successful in the regular education classroom.  A modified curriculum may be offered in self-contained classes and most students in this model are working toward an Occupational Diploma rather than a state academic diploma.  The itinerant model is for students who attend all regular education classes, but need the support of a teacher to monitor their progress.

All special education students at Carolina Forest High School have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) which is reviewed annual by the IEP team.  It is our goal that each student received the services that are needed for him/her to be successful.
