Courses: PE I, PE II, PE III, Health, and Driver's Education
Physical Education is in American Schools is changing. PE today is about impacting the lifestyle of each student beyond the high school years.
- According to government estimates, some 6 million American Children are seriously overweight.
- Those kids who remain heavy as adolescents tend to stay that way into adulthood.
- The resulting illnesses - diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and several cancers dill as estimated half-million Americans each year while costing $100 billion in medical expenses.
- The proportion of overweight American kids jumped from 5 percent in 1964 to nearly 13% in 1994. That means, today one child in three is either overweight or at risk of becoming so.
It is the goal of the Carolina Forest Physical Education Department to provide your son/daughter with the knowledge to sustain a lifetime of fitness. I believe that physical education is a part of the total school curriculum which uniquely focuses on the physical development of the child, while also addressing the emotional, intellectual and social needs of the child. I want my students to understand that fitness activities can bring a quality of life that money can't buy.
I ask your cooperation during the coming year to ensure that your son or daughter receives the best possible instruction in Physical Education. The CFHS Physical Education department has adopted the content standards for physical education prepared by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) and The South Carolina Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (SCAHPERD). The content standards specify "what your child should know and be able to do." Under each content standard are the performance benchmarks. With the use of the Fitnessgram, I will be assessing your child on each of them.
In order to guarantee all students in Physical Education the excellent learning climate that they deserve policies and procedures must be obeyed. I hope that Physical Education at CAROLINA FOREST HIGH SCHOOL will be an important part of your son's/daughter's learning experience leading to a Lifetime of personal fitness of recreation and fun for your child. We, the Physical Education Department, will keep you posted as to your child's progress in the program.
