Teacher of the Year
Todd Scholl graduated from Conway High School in 1989 and attended Brigham Young University for one semester. Somewhat homesick, Mr. Scholl transferred to The University of South Carolina for the remainder of his college years. At USC Scholl majored in Journalism and worked at the college radio station, WUSC. During the summer he worked at local radio stations. He became the station manager at WUSC during his senior year and graduated in 1993.

After a short career at Wave 104, the educational osmosis described earlier was too powerful to overcome. Scholl went back to school at Coastal Carolina University to become a certified teacher.

In college Mr. Scholl met Bridgette Higbe, a beautiful young woman from Conway who currently teaches mathematics at Conway High School. In 1995 the two married. Scholl was hired at Lakewood Elementary School during the same year to teach students with learning disabilities. In 1997 Scholl was approached by Mr. Wendell Shealy about teaching broadcast journalism at a new high school opening up in Carolina Forest. Mr.Scholl enthusiastically joined the faculty and has been at the school ever since.

Scholl coached boys and girls tennis at the school for several years, leading both programs to their first playoff appearances in school history.

In 2001 Scholl’s family grew with the addition of a daughter, Madison (8). Also that year, Mr. Scholl received a Masters Degree in Secondary Education from Coastal Carolina University, graduating with honors. In 2004 The Scholl family added a son named Colin (4).

In 2005 Scholl was selected as the instructor for the Teacher Cadet Program at CFHS. Within two years he was elected to the advisory board for CERRA – The Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement.

Scholl is also an active member of The South Carolina Scholastic Press Association and Southern Interscholastic Press Association. He has been published numerous times in regional scholastic journals. Scholl also created and sponsored Students As Revolutionaries, a service organization for students at CFHS. Scholl and his students have helped raise thousands of dollars for a variety of causes including: tsunami victims, Hurricane Katrina victims, South African aids orphans, animal shelters, and environmental programs.

Mr. Scholl supervises the production of The Forest Fire. The program won SCSPA’s Best in Broadcast Award in 2006, the highest award a broadcast program can receive in South Carolina. The show is consistently rated among the best in the Southeast.

Mr. Scholl and his family currently reside in Carolina Forest. Scholl enjoys reading, watching sports and movies, travelling and camping. He is a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Myrtle Beach.
