School Facts
Carolina Forest High School is located in northeast South Carolina in Horry County, 10 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. Carolina Forest is an unincorporated town located in Myrtle Beach. The school was introduced to students in 1997 and had its first graduating class in 2000. Our modern facility offers our students in grades 9 – 12 numerous advantages, including advanced technology, modern science laboratories, advanced placement courses, college credits, honors, college preparatory, and career academic assistance classes.

School Calendar: 1st semester: August 24, 2009 – January 15, 2010
2nd semester: January 20, 2010 – June 4, 2010

Schedule: 4/4 Modified Block Schedule (4 classes, 90 minutes each for 1 semester, total of 8 classes
per year; each semester class earns 1 credit)

Accreditation: South Carolina Department of Education and the Commission of Colleges of the
Southern Associating Colleges and Schools.The faculty consists of: 116 professionals with 81 Master’s Degrees, 10 Master’s Degree + 30, 3 Doctorate Degrees and 5 National Board Certified.

Today, the school caters to the academic nurturing of 2005 bright and talented students. The students, faculty, administration and parents are committed to making our school one of the best in the nation in both academics and extracurricular programs.

Our modern facility offers our students in grades 9 – 12 numerous advantages, including advanced technology, modern science laboratories, advanced placement courses, college credits, honors, college preparatory, and career academic assistance classes. The Carolina Forest High School Panther family is dedicated to providing our students with the educational challenges and opportunities that will prepare them to compete successfully as life-long learners in global society.

Graduation Requirements
: English (4 units), Math (4 units), Science (3 units), Government/Economics (1 unit), US History (1 unit), Social Studies (1 unit), Physical Education or ROTC (1 unit), Foreign Language or Occupational Course (1 unit), Computer Science (1 unit), Electives (7 units) for a total of 24 units. A South Carolina exit exam consisting of ELA and math must also be passed to receive a high school diploma. Four-Year College Additional Requirements: Lab Science (3 units), Foreign Language (2 – 3 units of the same language), Academic Electives (4 units in 3 different academic areas).

Rank: Students are ranked at the end of their junior year, the 135th day of their senior year, and final rank is calculated at the end of the senior year. Rank is calculated based on all courses taken using the South Carolina Uniform Grading Policy (weighted scale).

Placement
Carolina Forest High School students are placed in classes based upon achievement, standardized tests, teacher recommendation, and course availability.

Graduating class of 2009: Size: 314; Percent attending: four-year college 49%, two-year college 32%, Military 3%, Employment 16%. Scholarship awards totaled $ 7,322,586.00

Testing:
Average SAT score for the graduating class of 2009 – 1048; national average – 1017. Average ACT score is 21.5; national average 21.1.  AP passing test results with a 3 or better are as follows: AP Calculus AB 88%, AP World History 86%, AP English Language 83%, AP English Literature 69%, AP US History 46%, AP Biology 53%.
